The PA Public Utility Commission (PUC) has created the Advance Education Brochure explaining the soon-to-be-implemented Emergency Broadband Benefit (EBB) program. The EBB gives qualifying households money to buy internet service or equipment to use the internet if they are eligible. This program should be of particular interest to parents of school age students (Free or Reduced Lunch makes a household eligible), and students attending colleges and universities (Pell Grant recipients are eligible). This program is not yet activated. However, the funding is expected to go quickly and will be administered on a first come/first served basis. More information about this program is also available on the FCC’s webpage at www.fcc.gov.

Case Avenue, Middle School and High School parents and guardians. Please be informed that parking at Marco's Pizza Shop is no longer permitted. As I mentioned in my post from February 22, 2021, the manager of the store had asked for cooperation when parking in the lot, using only limited spots and not allowing students to run between cars etc. Unfortunately, this has not happened, and there has since been an accident and an child injured. Therefore, beginning immediately, cars parking in the lot at drop off and dismissal will be ticketed and towed. We thank the staff at Marco's for their willingness to try and resolve this issue prior to having to make this decision.

Case Avenue, Sharon Middle and Sharon High School parents and guardians. Please note that we have been informed that the managers of the Marco's Pizza site on East State Street are having issues with a number of our students playing on site and with parents/guardians parking in their lots, blocking their business. The issues are as follows: 1. Students are playing on/around the store's dumpster. This is dangerous and when asked to stop the students have not done so. NO Student is to be on the property after school unless being picked up. Disciplinary measures will be taken for those who refuse to listen. 2. They don't mind if parents use the parking lot, they just ask that they leave the front 3 spots at the building for their customers and use only the back spots to pick up students. Parents have been known to argue or ignore when they're asked to move. This business is kind enough to make their space available at pick up time but will be notifying the police should parents/guardians refuse to cooperate with this request.

The COVID-19 relief packages recently passed by the United States Congress contain numerous benefits for families financially impacted by the pandemic. Some of these benefits are available to students who are eligible for free or reduced-price school meals. Even though all Sharon students are currently receiving free meals under the current Federal waiver, if you feel your child would qualify for free or reduced-price school meals under normal school circumstances, we encourage you to submit an application (if you have not already done so) as soon as possible so you may become eligible for these new benefits. With the uncertainties that the current pandemic presents, we realize that at any given moment our schools may once again have to shut down. We’re also aware that some of our students may not be able to attend school or there may be parents who wish to keep their children home. We want our families to know that the District will be prepared to provide instruction to all students in all scenarios, this includes the options of in school face to face instruction and virtual learning, where students will participate in school at home daily. Sharon City Schools have secured the resources to implement a 1:1 initiative. This means: Every K-12 student will be receiving a Chromebook at the beginning of the 2020-21 school year for use in and out of the classroom, as needed. Online learning and connection to our classrooms will be made available to every student. We will maintain instruction regardless of how the District is impacted by COVID-19 closures or restrictions. We understand that families may be hesitant for the children to return to the school buildings. To discuss our virtual learning options, please contact Justi Glaros, Supervisor of Curriculum, Instruction, & Assessment, at 724-983-4000, ext. 4990 or firstname.lastname@example.org or visit our homepage to access our Virtual Learning Form.

Continued: The school is not allowed to give you specifics about what happened to a specific child. We cannot tell you about motivations, issues, or consequences. We can, and always do, tell appropriate authorities and conduct a full investigation of any threats received.
We also want to inform our parents that while it is natural for you to want information about these events there are limits to what can be shared. Because we are a school that receives federal funds, the Family Educational Rights & Privacy Act (FERPA) protects students’ records.
